Alternate Character Generation

This optional character creation option was introduced to get rid of some randomness and some other issues. It's not about getting rid of the cards, they're cool. Keep them during play.

V1.3

TRAITS

When purchasing Traits use the following cost per trait:

1
2
3
4
d4
0
1
2
4
d6
3
4
5
7
d8
8
9
10
12
d10
14
15
16
18
d12
21
22
23
25

You have 100 points to spend. Any unspent points are lost.

If you are not the number-crunching type, or if you are in a hurry, just forget about the table above and simply assign the following values and die types

1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 4 - 4

and

d4 - d6 - d6 - d8 - d8 - d8 - d10 - d10 - d10 - d12

in any way you want.
These stats would cost slighty more than 100 points. This is on purpose.

Next, decide if you want to roll for background, which may be good or bad. If you want to, roll a d4. Your Marshal might want to be around when you roll.
Treat a roll of 1 as if a black joker had come up during character generation.
With a roll of 4 you may increase any one trait level by one, with a maximum of 4. Also, check for "mysterious past", as if a red Joker had come up.
Any other roll has no effect on the character.

APTITUDES

Calculate your Aptitude Point total as usual adding Knowledge, Smarts and Cognition.
Again, any unspent points are lost.
Buy Aptitude levels using the following costs:

Aptitude level
1
2
3
4
5
Total cost
1
2
3
5
8

Additional concentrations cost 3, as usual.

EDGES, HINDERANCES AND GEAR

The remaining part works as usual.

FINAL NOTE

Characters created with this option tend to be slightly less developed than the average randomly generated character. If you want to compensate, give them some bounty points to start with.
